Questions
General dentistry FAQ
How often should I have a checkup and cleaning?
Every six months suits most people. If you’ve had gum disease, we may recommend a periodontal maintenance cleaning every three to four months.
What is a deep cleaning?
When gum pockets are deeper than a regular cleaning can reach, we clean below the gumline with local anesthetic. It’s usually done one or two quadrants (quarters of the mouth) at a time.
Can you replace my old silver fillings?
If an old amalgam filling is cracked, leaking or decayed underneath, we replace it with a tooth-colored filling or crown. Healthy ones can stay; we’ll tell you honestly which is which.
Does a root canal hurt?
Not with modern anesthetic. Most patients say it feels like a long filling, and it relieves the pain of an infected tooth.
