The implant process

What to expect, step by step

1

Consultation & 3D scan

We check your bone and gums, answer your questions and give you a written plan with costs.

2

Placement

The implant is placed under local anesthetic, with sedation if you like. Most people are back at work the next day.

3

Healing

Over three to four months the implant fuses with the bone. You wear a temporary tooth in the meantime.

4

Your new tooth

We fit a custom porcelain crown, shade-matched to your smile.

Implant

A titanium post in the jaw with a porcelain crown on top.

  • Looks, feels and chews like a natural tooth

  • Helps keep the jawbone healthy
  • 3 to 6 months from start to finish

Quicker

Bridge

A false tooth held by crowns on the teeth either side.

  • Done in about two weeks
  • No surgery
  • Neighboring teeth need crowns
  • Usually replaced after 10 to 15 years

Most affordable

Denture

A removable plate with one or more false teeth.

  • Replaces several teeth at once
  • Lowest upfront cost
  • Comes out to clean
  • Can be clipped onto implants later

Your consultation includes a 3D scan and a written comparison of the options that suit your mouth and budget.

Questions

Implants & oral surgery FAQ

Does getting an implant hurt?

The area is fully numbed, so you feel pressure but not pain. Afterwards most people need only over-the-counter pain relief for a few days.

Am I a candidate for implants?

Most healthy adults are. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and bone loss can affect healing, but bone grafting often makes implants possible. The 3D scan tells us for sure.

Should my wisdom teeth come out?

Not always. We recommend removal when they’re impacted, keep getting infected, or are damaging the teeth next to them. A panoramic X-ray shows what’s going on.

Can I drive home after sedation?

After laughing gas, yes. After IV sedation, no: please bring someone to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.
